This project for Aspendale Gardens Community Services to design the outdoor spaces at two preschool centres and a community centre has been undertaken in 3 stages. Stage 1 involved the preparation of an overall masterplan for all sites and more detailed concept design for each of the 3 specific sites. Each area had its particular requirements, but the overall theme was to create more ‘natural’ and interesting spaces in each such as a dry-creek bed (Bluegum), outdoor learning area (Bluegum), areas for flexible equipment (All), mud kitchens (Wattle & Bluegum) and sand play areas (All) and an outdoor kitchen (Community Centre). Stage 2 involved planning for staging of works and mini-documentation for all 3 sites, which was completed in 2015. In 2016 Stage 3 involving further tender documentation for the Bluegum Pre-School Centre was undertaken (with Leaf Design Studio) and Stage 4 works for the playspaces at the Community Centre and the outdoor play area at the Bluegum Pre-School Centre will be undertaken as further funding becomes available.
