The concept development design for the new Eureka Street Children’s Centre in Ballarat East included the design for both an upper and lower level play areas and additional flexible play area spaces. The upper level play area is design for use by children 0-3 years (Babies Area and Toddler Area) and includes; pathway connections, a greater diversity of spaces and elements, including raised decks, decorative walls, planting, rocks and logs, musical and art elements and sand play. The lower level play area has been designed on a number of different levels for the pre-school age group of 3-5 years and includes; scramble mound, play decks and cubby, large sand play and mud patch area with creek channel, green walls, mounds and musical elements. The garden areas in both the upper and lower areas have been designed as ‘dinosaur landscapes’ with rainforest type plants maintained by a irrigation system built into the overhead shelter.
