Lake Esmond Playspace was commissioned by the City of Ballarat in 2014. The objective was to complement fixed play equipment with nature play opportunities in a significant native bush reserve in Canadian. The central feature is the ‘log tree climb forest’ which is a number of log poles of various heights for balancing and climbing. The project includes a junior and senior play area, with a number of accessible play items such as a birds nest swing and sand play area. The project also includes play elements built into the landscape such as a 30m long double flying fox and slide mound. Woven into existing picnic facilities and a public toilet, the design creates a inclusive and intergenerational community space.
